Canadian Fashion Designers retool factory to start manufacturing reusable protective face masks.
The Peoples Mask is a rapid response to the medical mask supply shortage and economic hardships brought on by the COVID-19 crisis.
Established by two Canadians Martha Tessema & Shanté Renee working together remotely from opposite sides of the country, the team immediately shifted its focus to manufacturing and distributing protective gear for caregivers and essential workers in need.
In just 8 days, studios and supply chains were mobilized to develop evidence supported functional masks, that are both comfortable and effective. And that is when The Peoples Mask was born.
Before manufacturing masks, Toronto’s Shanté Renee, the designer of luxury fashion brand Vanity Couture was gearing up for a promising swim season.
The world was suddenly halted due to the novel coronavirus. As a result, Shanté repurposed her studio from swimwear to mask production to join a good friend who was organizing local hospitals donations.
Edmonton's Martha Tessema, an internet entrepreneur with a background in supply chain management and understanding of the importance of distribution channels felt together they could extend this beyond their local communities.
The pair were truly a great match in this initiative. From 2000 miles apart in a time where social distancing regulations and government mandated stay-at-home orders were in place, these two long time friends partnered up long distance and expanded their vision to supply protective face masks to civilians coast to coast.
My mask protects you, your mask protects me.
Because we all want to feel safe and be free once again.” - Martha Tessema
